AngloGold Ashanti: Gold output lower than expected
12.04.2012/2012/XNUMX Johannesburg - The South African gold producer AngloGold Ashanti should not be satisfied at the moment. Because the company was unable to achieve its production targets in the first quarter of XNUMX.
If one predicted in advance a flow of 1,03 million troy ounces of gold, the gold production in the first quarter was only 980.000 troy ounces of gold. The reason for the failure to make estimates in the South African mines, where safety issues led to temporary stoppages, with the result that overall 76.000 ounces of less gold were born in the Cape deposits between January and March.
Just a slip-up?
However, the reduced production of the South Africans might have been just a slip-up. On the one hand, it can be assumed that AngloGold Ashanti should get to grips with the security problems in their South African mines in a timely manner, and therefore no comparable production losses have to be expected in the coming quarters. In addition, the company's South African deposits cover only 37 percent of total production. The company also operates mines in Australia, America and the rest of Africa. And, according to the company, these deposits have quite met their production goals.
For AngloGold Ashanti, the production figures presented are by nature not good news, even if the production losses may be an exception. And as mining in offshore South African deposits is proceeding as scheduled, AngloGold Ashanti is likely to return to growth path soon.
