Success in court: Rare earth producer Lynas may shake off licensing examination in MalaysiaThe rare earth metal producer Lynas has achieved success in court. A judge in Malaysia rejected a request from environmental activists for a legal review of the licensing process for the company's processing facility in the Asian country.

According to the company, the court in Kuantan rejected an application from activists associated with the Save Malaysia Stop Lynas movement to review the decision of the Atomic Energy Licensing Board of Malaysia to grant Lynas provisional permission to operate.

Lynas also told the Australian Stock Exchange that there was no court order preventing the company from continuing operations at its Malaysian facility. Just last month, Lynas and the Malaysian government successfully fought back another application from the Save Malaysia Stop Lynas group regarding their license to operate.

Lynas owns one of the largest deposits of rare earths, a group of 17 metals mainly used in high-tech products, at its Mount Weld mine in Western Australia. However, the company has decided to process the ores in Malaysia after a previous plan to build a plant in China was rejected due to concerns from the Australian government.
