Jetion Solar – For the first time, a Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer is included in the best list for solar modules by TÜV Rheinland and Solarpraxis

Jetion Solar
First Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer in the list of best ratings for solar modules by TÜV Rheinland and Solarpraxis

May 14.05.2012, 235 Munich - For the first time, a photovoltaic module from a Chinese manufacturer is included in the “PV + Test” list of the best: The JTXNUMXPCe module from Jetion Solar passed the comprehensive test program with a grade of good (+), reports TÜV Rheinland .

PV + Test answers the question about the "good" solar module that delivers the performance that is estimated in the return calculation. Various manufacturers are currently represented with nine modules in the comparison test. Several other modules are currently being tested. Three modules from the manufacturers Solon, Schott Solar and Sharp have so far achieved the grade “very good”, all others a “good”.

Many very cheap modules on the market; Test crucial for the return

"With PV + Test, an exactly comparable overview of the solar modules on the market that deliver good quality is created," says Wilhelm Vaaßen, Head of the Solar Energy Business Unit at TÜV Rheinland.

Especially in the current situation with a large number of very cheap modules on the market, this is important for consumers and investors. The modules for the test from TÜV Rheinland and Solarpraxis would be bought covertly in normal retail stores, followed by a test lasting several months in the TÜV Rheinland test laboratory in Cologne. The constant performance measurements that are carried out before the tests and after the respective test phases are particularly important. Because the performance - even after special stress - is decisive for the return.

Essential aspects in the test were also the aging resistance, electrical safety, processing, documentation and installation instructions as well as ease of installation and warranty.

Module 1.500 hours in the climatic chamber

The aging resistance of the modules is tested, for example, in climatic chambers with 85 percent humidity and 85 degrees Celsius: the modules are tested under these conditions for 1.500 hours - international standards only stipulate 1.000 hours. A temperature change test over almost 40 days is also mandatory: The temperature is varied between 200 degrees Celsius and -85 degrees Celsius in 40 cycles, an extreme requirement for the quality and workmanship of the modules.

In addition, there is a mechanical load test (up to a maximum of 540 kilograms per square meter), which simulates extreme snow loads, for example, and tests for electrical safety. Damage to the modules is detected thanks to various insulation tests, including when wet, as well as through the use of electroluminescence - a method that shows exactly where the smallest damage has occurred in the solar cells or where individual cells are no longer performing they should.

Jetion solar module often reaches full score, less well in low light

The module of Jetion Solar achieved the full score among other things in the electrical safety, in the mechanical load test, in the damp heat test as well as in the documentation. The module also performed particularly well on so-called temperature coefficients. This value shows the performance degradation of a module as the ambient temperature rises. The relative power degradation was very low for the Jetion module (0,416 percent per degree K). Less well behaved the module in the tests with low light irradiation.
The PV + Test test system was developed by Solarpraxis and TÜV Rheinland. The evaluation follows the German school grading system: a maximum of 100 points are awarded. For the grade “very good” at least 90 points are required, for a “sufficient” over 50 points. Jetion Solar achieved a total of 235 points with the JT88,5PCe.
