Rösler: The first steps to implement the raw materials partnership with Mongolia have been completed!
(PresseBox) Berlin, 29.03.2012, Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, dr. Philipp Rösler, and the President of Mongolia, Tsakhia Elbegdorj, met today in Berlin for bilateral talks. Both underlined the trusting political and economic relations between Germany and Mongolia. The talks focused on the implementation of the government agreement on cooperation in the raw materials, industrial and technological sectors, which was signed in October 2011 in Ulan Bator.
Federal Minister Rösler: “It is now up to business and politics to bring the German-Mongolian raw materials agreement to life. Raw materials are an indispensable basis for industrial production and value creation and thus a motor for growth and employment. This applies to Germany as well as to Mongolia. It is therefore a good signal that companies from both countries have signed agreements on important projects today. Politics will make its contribution to successful economic cooperation. Today's meetings of the German-Mongolian government working group on raw materials and the German-Mongolian economic committee demonstrate this impressively. "
The focal points of the government working group were education and training, cooperation interests and opportunities in raw materials and scientific and technological cooperation. Mongolia's goal is also to reduce its energy dependence on foreign countries. This can be achieved through technologies in the field of renewable energies and coal liquefaction.
The German Raw Materials Agency (DERA) in the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) also contributed its expertise to today's meeting. BGR has been working with the authorities responsible for mining and geology in Mongolia since 1962. With the “Environmental Protection in Mining” project, BGR supports Mongolia in setting up a mountain inspection, organizes training courses and helps with the modernization of equipment. The next meeting of the bilateral government working group is scheduled for autumn 2012 in Mongolia.
With a trading volume of 155,9 million euros, bilateral economic relations reached a new high last year.
