Rare earths - Current May 2013

Praseodymium / neodymium

Praseodymium / neodymium metal prices have weakened over the past few days in response to falling demand from NdFeB producers. Some suppliers have reduced their prices for 99% praseodymium / neodymium to US $ 60,00 per kilogram, compared to approximately US $ 62,00 per kilogram last week. A northern producer reported that prices around US $ 59,20 per kilogram could be accepted by some suppliers due to a lack of buyers and abundant inventory.

dysprosium

The dysprosium oxide demand is stagnating while consumers are waiting for lower prices. Some suppliers offered prices of US $ 243,00 / kg. However, only limited business activity was reported.

EUROPIUM

China's europium oxide prices have declined yet again, accompanied by weakening demand from fluorescent powder producers amid the economic downturn. 4N europium oxide prices have fallen to US $ 634,00 / kg. A few days ago, prices of US $ 682,00 / kg were spotted.

terbium

The 4N terbium oxide prices are US $ 478,00 / kg. Towards the end of last month they were still US $ 488,00 / kg. A number of fluorescent powder manufacturers had reduced their consumption of rare earth oxides as prices rose sharply in 2011. Together with weak demand caused by the economic downturn, the demand for terbium oxide has been sluggish in recent months and prices are still on a downward trend.

lanthanum

Lanthanum metal prices are currently on the decline with falling lanthanum oxide prices and relatively weak demand. Some vendors offer US $ 11,38 / KG for 99% Lanthanum Metal. Some suppliers accept prices from US $ 10,70 / KG. Meanwhile, prices of 99-99,9% lanthanum oxide have dropped from US $ 5,53 / KG to about US $ 5,20 / KG, due to abundant domestic inventories.

cerium

Due to high inventories and increasing production, especially in northern China, there are abundant supplies of cerium oxide in the Chinese domestic market. Coupled with increasing overseas production and relatively low consumption in the abrasive powder market, cerium oxide is present in excess. This is reflected in the price drop. Prices for 99-99,9% Cerium Oxide are priced at approximately US $ 5,53 / KG. Some suppliers offer at higher prices of US $ 5,85.
