03.04.2012/XNUMX/XNUMX - UL acquires Lower Saxony wind energy institute DEWI
Northbrook, Illinois - UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.), one of the major international certification companies, has agreed to take over DEWI GmbH (Wilhelmshaven and Oldenburg), a state-owned consulting company for wind energy, with the State of Lower Saxony. The takeover also includes 50,8 percent of the shares DEWI holds in DEWI OCC GmbH in Cuxhaven; this company is recognized by the German DAP accreditation system as a certification body for onshore and offshore wind turbines.
DEWI was founded to support the nascent German wind energy industry and has rapidly grown from a local R & D office into a world leader in metering services, wind surveys, research, training and consulting. More than 1990 customers in 1300 countries worldwide have already trusted DEWI.

The market for wind turbine certification and assessment is expected to grow significantly over the next few years, with 2015 expected to grow by as much as 67 percent. DEWI, with offices in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey, Canada, Brazil and China, will continue to operate this market as part of UL's Product Safety division.
