Albemarle's Kemerton facility hires SCEE

Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (SCEE) has received the order for the electrical and instrumentation work (E&I) in the Kemerton lithium plant from MARBL.

The MARBL lithium joint venture, which is 60 percent owned by Albemarle Corporation and which also includes the Kemerton processing plant, will have SCEE supply the entire E&I for both the hydrometer and pyrometer sections of the plant.

The work at the Bunbury, Western Australia, site is valued at $ 65 million in total, with SCEE's work expected to begin in late Q2020 XNUMX.

The $ 1 billion plant near Bunbury received environmental approval in November 2018, clearing the green barrier for the state government.

Albemarle Corporation owns 49 percent of the Talison lithium mine in Greenbushes, Western Australia, and 60 percent of the Wodinga lithium mine in Western Australia.

SCEE General Manager Graeme Dunn said, “I am delighted to announce such a significant award in the growing lithium industry in the commodities sector.

The processing plant in Kemerton will initially consist of two trains, each with a production capacity of 25.000 tons of lithium hydroxide per year.

SCEE will complete work on the spodumene manufacturer in May 2021, thereby supporting Albemarle's significant supply of lithium production worldwide.

Albemarle has shortened the difficult conditions on the lithium market to around 18 months after a difficult year for this raw material.

Nevertheless, the company continued processing and manufacturing for its current customers.
