The strategic topics of the German-Chilean Chamber of Commerce Abroad - mining and raw materials, energy, innovation and technology transfer as well as vocational training and further education - were the focus of the two forums, which were organized by the AHK Chile on October 27th with the support of its partners in the Haus der Wirtschaft Berlin were organized.

Five ministers, ten parliamentarians and the presidents of the most important business associations in the Andean country were represented at the top-class event with more than 200 participants. More than 20 entrepreneurs from Chile took part in the “Inspiration Tour - Mining meets Industry” that followed. The activities serve to deepen bilateral cooperation and to specify various projects in the areas mentioned.

III. Meeting of the German-Chilean Forum for Mining and Mineral Resources: Investment Opportunities in Chilean Mining

In the year of 2013, it was decided at the highest level of government to raise German-Chilean relations in the field of mining and mineral resources to a strategic level and to work beyond the commercial objectives of both countries on other topics of mutual interest. For regular exchange, the German-Chilean Forum for Mining and Raw Materials was convened as an annual bilateral platform.

The forum was prepared and organized by the AHK Chile in cooperation with the German Mineral Resources Agency (DERA) and with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

Representatives of well-known companies such as Siemens, Bosch, Rockwood Lithium, Cronimet and KUKA Robotics spoke about their developments for efficient process solutions and their commitment to the Chilean mining industry.

"Mining meets Industry"

Participants in the inspiration tour “Mining meets Industry”, organized by the AHK Chile.

A high-level Chilean delegation, under the auspices of the Chilean Ministry of Mining, the Department of Energy and the Chilean Foreign Investment Committee, took the opportunity to visit German companies and institutions that are leaders in 4.0 automation and industry.

20 Representatives of companies, universities and institutions took part in this tour, organized by the AHK Chile and supported by the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria, from Berlin to RAG Mining Solutions, Robert Bosch in Stuttgart and to KUKA Robotics, TÜV Süd, Bavaria. led the chemistry cluster Bavaria and BMW.

Fraunhofer Forum "Applied Innovation in Smart Factory and Energy"
Immediately after the raw materials forum, the “Applied Innovation in Smart Factory and Energy” forum was held in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Society in order to demonstrate the potential of new solutions for the energy issues of Chilean mining. During this forum, the President of the Fraunhofer Society, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Reimund Neugebauer presented the role of his institutes in Germany's high-tech strategy to the Chilean side.

Chilean economics minister Luis Felipe Céspedes shared the challenges of the Chilean government's innovation strategy and the opportunities for German players, while Energy Minister Máximo Pacheco revealed the potential for engagement in the Andean energy sector.

The Chilean President Michelle Bachelet took part in the signing of the agreement to set up a second Fraunhofer Center in Chile, which is being set up in cooperation with Fraunhofer ISE Freiburg. The new Fraunhofer Chile Research Center for Solar Energy Technology will join the Fraunhofer Chile Research Center for Systems Biotechnology, which was founded in 2010, and will work under the umbrella of the Fraunhofer Chile Reserach Foundation.

President Bachelet concluded the event with a speech in which she highlighted the importance of cooperation between Chile on such strategic issues as mining, energy, innovation and education. Speaking to representatives of the AHK Chile, she thanked the chamber for the excellent work it has done to deepen and strategically align German-Chilean relations.

Agreement to promote innovation in Chile
The AHK Chile and the VDI / VDE Innovation + Technology GmbH (VDI / VDE-IT) signed an agreement for a partnership-based cooperation in Chile in the presence of Chilean Minister of Economy Luis Felipe Céspedes. This should bring together the specific competences of both institutions.

Priorities include cluster programs, policies and instruments for regional and / or sectoral competitiveness enhancement, business innovation management offerings, workplace foresight measures and instruments, and policies, programs, and measures for vocational education and skills development. The agreement builds on existing cooperation projects and innovation policy discussions.

Vocational education and training

Vocational training partnership FOCOCERT:
Delegation trip "Vocational training and social dialogue"

As part of the German-Chilean cooperation, FOCOCERT, traveled between the 25. October and 2. November a Chilean delegation with board members of the project partner ChileValora to Germany.

The aim of the visit program was to inform about cooperation between the state, social partners and companies in the successful design of the dual vocational training system. For this purpose dates were held with the IHK Berlin, the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB), the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), the Board of Trustees of the German Business Community for Vocational Training, the IG Metall and Bosch Rexroth.

The Vocational Training Project FOCOCERT seeks to improve the connectivity of the National System for the Certification of Professional Competences and to contribute to the development of a national professional qualification system as required by industry.
