Market potential Canada: Growing solar energy market offers opportunities for German companies.May 14.05.2012th, 2.260 Montreal, Canada - As the official representative of Solar Promotion GmbH, the Canadian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Montreal is organizing the Canadian pavilion in Hall B13 at Intersolar Europe 15, which will take place in Munich from June 2012th to XNUMXth nine exhibiting Canadian companies are in the fields of photovoltaics (EcoSunPV, Produkt PGC Inc) and solar thermal (Enerconcept, Solar-Infra Systems Int. Ltd, Thermo Dynamics) as well as advising in the field of solar energy (Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, CanSIA, Ontario International Marketing Center, German-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Industry).

With an annual solar irradiation of 3,3 - 6,7 KWh / m2 Canada is in fifth place in a global comparison and thus represents a very attractive business area for German entrepreneurs. In 2011, almost 400 MW of new PV capacity was achieved in Canada installed (2010 = 200 MW, 2009 = 80 MW). A total of around 650 companies are active in the Canadian solar sector today - 80% of which are active in the PV sector. Over 75% of these companies are based in the Province of Ontario. The annual investments in the PV sector in 2011 were estimated at more than 700 million CAD (almost 535 million E). With the recently published revision of the feed-in tariff (in accordance with the German EEG), the Ontario government has confirmed its ongoing commitment to renewable energies, but has reduced the feed-in tariffs for solar energy by around 20%. The province continues to pursue the goal of abolishing energy generation from coal-fired power plants by 2014 and replacing the additional capacity of 20 MW required over the next 15.000 years with emission-free energy sources. Solar energy should contribute 1,5% of this.
