New funding program bioeconomy - biorefineries for the extraction of raw materials from waste and wastewater: "Bio-Ab-Cycling"
As part of the new ERDF funding program “Bioeconomy”, the Ministry of the Environment supports the construction and implementation of modular “biorefineries” with environmental technologies and bio-intelligent solutions under scientific supervision.
In the biorefineries ("Bio"), waste or wastewater ("Ab") should be used as a source of raw materials and the raw materials contained therein should be recovered using various coordinated technologies. The raw materials are efficiently and sustainably fed back into the economic cycle (“cycling”).
The focus should not be on the use of individual technologies for the recovery of raw materials, but on the interfaces and interactions of the interconnected technologies (modules). The eligibility of these biorefineries or bio-factories relates on the one hand to biomass-containing raw material sources such as biowaste or municipal wastewater and / or (for other raw material sources) to the use of biological processes such as biomining of metals or fermentation of organic matter. The aim should be to obtain as many raw materials or products as possible from the respective secondary raw material source - i.e. waste or wastewater. In doing so, biological resources such as plants, animals and microorganisms and / or biotechnological processes and biological knowledge can be used.
The funding serves to implement the regional bioeconomy strategy. The funds come from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the state of Baden-Württemberg. The invitation to tender should take place this year.
